Herald of Radiance

"Though I cannot stand many of his deeds, I cannot deny the Exalt's leadership and strength. He walks with purpose, speaks with authority, and remains steadfast in his beliefs. Every leader worth their salt knows—to make an enemy of the Exalt is to put your realm in danger."

—Queen Morgana Valdarius, Current Age, 1093 years after the Sacred Ring was lost.

Demons stood still, chattering their teeth melodiously. It was the first time Fury had ever heard demons cease all of their screams. It made him uneasy. The Saint looked at him in equal amounts of confusion. Cillanx was like a cicada’s nest, except the cicadas were demons. The sound was so loud that Fury felt rumbling under his feet. Rumbling from the chatter increased in intensity until entire structures of stone were shaking. And then, it peaked.

Bursting out of the ground where the Hosac sent their orange and black beam was a mammoth of a creature. Clawing its way out of the ground, the beast gave the terrain one final shake as its daunting visage rose. Four bright orange eyes larger than his head stared at Fury. Its glare by itself made him want to puke. The creature was akin to a decimi from the waist down except for its feet, which were hooves. Its torso was heavily muscled, also like the decimi, but it appeared to be more akin to the muscles of a bull rather than a humanoid. Black hair dipped in bright orange ran from atop the creature’s skull all of the way down to its tail. Its face was that of a dog with a short snout. Tentacles waved in the wind on its back, and thick black chains covered the creature’s whole body.

It was horrifying.

“What… What in the name of GOD is this?” That had been Hazen, echoing Fury’s own thoughts. Quiet came over Cillanx for a moment; the demonic chattering ceased completely. The only sound was of the howling wind, screaming in terror at the sight.

Decimating that quiet was an eruption of sound—the dark beast roared. Fury clutched his ears, his knees buckled, and he fell weakly to the ground in agony. Darkness shrouded his vision. Ringing deafened his hearing. His very skin burned. He gripped Noire’s rapier tightly while frantically honing in on any sense he still had. When his vision finally returned, he witnessed Saint Hazen send a large ball of white light swirling towards the beast.

The beast opened its mouth and breathed fire at the ball of light. Fire! Hazen’s attack was no more. Eager to try anything, Fury tried to jump high enough to throw Noire’s rapier through one of its bright orange eyes… he failed. As soon as he jumped, one of the creature’s extra eyes locked onto him. At that moment Fury knew he had made a mistake, but it was too late. One of the monster’s large, cat-like arms swiped Fury out of the air and sent him flying, crashing through already broken pieces of wood until his back met stone.
